Information for Parents

It is a fact. Raising a child is one of the most important and rewarding things you will ever do, but it can also be extremely challenging. At First 5 Fresno County, we are committed to partnering with and supporting parents because we understand that as a parent you are your child's first teacher.

Helpful Resources

Could your child be the next Einstein?  There's no guarantee, but if you are an engaged parent who knows how to support your child, their chances of being successful in school and life dramatically increase.

Brain Development

Research shows that a child's brain develops most dramatically during the first five years of life. Increased experiences define the wiring of an infant’s brain. By the age of three, about 80% of the synaptic connections of brain cells or the “building blocks” of development are already made.

Actively engaging with a young child isn’t just a good thing - it directly impacts the formation of neural pathways. Therefore, strong parent-child relationships are critical.
