First 5 Fresno County
First 5 exists because the voters understood - when they originally passed Prop 10 and when they twice rebuffed efforts to overturn it - that it pays to invest in our children.

Take Action Now!
Time and again, children’s programs and services are the first to be slashed when times get tough. We must stand together to be a solid voice for our children.
First 5 Fresno County is a founding member of The Children’s Movement of Fresno; a community-based grassroots effort challenging our leaders to think about how every decision they make impacts children.
A state-wide movement for children is also taking action. Visit The Children's Movement of California page.
First 5 vs. the State
This past March, Governor Jerry Brown signed into law AB 99, which takes away $1 billion from First 5 Commissions across the state.
The $1 billion grab goes against the intent of Proposition 10 and disregards the will of voters. In April, First 5 Fresno County took a stand for children and voters and filed a lawsuit in opposition to the illegal grab of local dollars. See Why First 5 Fresno County Filed Lawsuit.
The fate of this case is currently in the hands of a Fresno Judge with a ruling expected by December 2011.
